Current Major CWCIA Projects
Work in progress; a focus on short, and mid-term goals
Addressing and countering the economic threat implicit in the initial lien filing fee issue. This is a multi-front effort expected to be a major challenge during much of the remainder of 2004. This effort is being led by CWCIA IP&O Committee.

Working hand-in-glove with CPS under State Personnel Board supervision, we hope to improve the flow of new Certified Interpreters into the existing pool and develop a training and mentoring program that will enable candidates to qualify and pass the certification tests sooner. This is a long-range task for which the CWCIA Special Action Committee has responsibility.

Develop a package of benefits for all interpreter members matching those that are normally only available to employees of large companies or members of large professional groups. Two special targets are development of medical benefits program and membership in a credit union. The CWCIA Interpreter Task Force and Agency Task Force share this responsibility.

Bringing new chapters on-line in concentrated population areas throughout the state. Active Chapters now include: Central California (Fresno), Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Orange County. A number of talks have been held with leaders in the San Diego interpreting community with a Saturday brunch meeting being proposed within the next few weeks to form plans for starting a chapter there. The CWCIA Membership Committee spearheads this activity.

Expanding membership of the various committees to Include representatives from each chapter. The tasks we can undertake are limited only by our capacity to do them well. We are all on the lookout for "a few good men (and women)" to join these committees. Many of our most productive meetings take place on conference calls.
